It uses her drawings, together with some ropey camcorder footage I took.
And yes, that's her voice you hear.
It seemed like a very good excuse to learn After Effects, something I'd been meaning to do for a while. Among the things I learned: on a fairly standard setup After Effects is insanely memory-hungry and frustratingly crash-prone.
So I got the video done in time for Christmas.
Tech Note:
The good version is HD (more accurately it's 720p at YouTube's capped bitrate). Fastish broadband and a reasonably high-end computer will get the most out of it.
If you notice signs of choppiness (such as the picture jumping, audio cutting out, or the sound shifting out of phase with the picture), you could do one of the following.
- Watch the video in the box above rather than in fullscreen.
- Pause playback, and make a cup of tea while the whole thing downloads. Once the red bar reaches the end, then play it.
- Close any other programs you may have running that could be using up memory on your computer.
- Choose the lower quality version.
